What is Clinical Supervision?

Supervision is best described as a safe and confidential environment for you to professionally to reflect and discuss your work as a practitioner while ensuring quality patient services and your own well-being. All of which are essential for social workers providing clinical services, especially those performing psychotherapy.

Working in the helping professions, we may feel that carrying these burdens is part of the job. For the culture of helping suggests that we need to carry these burdens discreetly and to present a professional front. Clinical supervision is a space where we can explore the effects of our work, and make sense of the feelings our work evokes.

Become a Registered Clinical Social Worker Intern (RCSWI) you will need to secure a qualified supervisor to oversee you completing your clinical experience. This part is essential for completing set guidelines as outlined by the Florida Social Work Board. Read more here.

The supervision experience must have consisted of: At least 100 hours of supervision in no less than 100 weeks; 1,500 hours of face-to-face psychotherapy with clients; and, 1 hour of supervision every two weeks.

In general, Supervisors set their own prices and there is no set amount. The range can vary from $50.00 per hour to $120.00 per hour.

Verify that your intern registration number has been issues by the Department and that the Board office has receive a letter and has approved your qualified supervisor. NOTE: Remember supervision experience will not count towards licensure until the intern registration number has been issued and approved by the board.

Once you have completed your post-master’s clinical experience hours—a Verification of Clinical Experience Form must be documented and signed by your qualified supervisor. NOTE: Registered interns must stay in supervision until they have received their full license.
